I sometimes read books which leave me puzzled as to why I bought them in the first place. Even when a good hook grabs you, the rest of the story can't leave the reader bored.

Depending upon your genre, I suppose, you'd have to grab the reader accordingly. Something has to happen in the first 5-6 pages that holds the reader and makes them want to know what will happen next; want to know more about the characters, and see how the protag gets out of the initial situation--or do they? In my first vampire novel, my protag simply gets in deeper with every page.

Have a good one Vic, and good luck in finding that hook.

Lorelei's MuseLorelei Bellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03294047277447613989noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20741427.post-82591782145904078092010-11-11T16:26:11.076-08:002010-11-11T16:26:11.076-08:00It has not been easy for me to maintain what might...It has not been easy for me to maintain what might be considered at least a more positive than negative attitude. (Wikipedia).

While I understand what you're saying, and I am not saying I'm an Obama fan (I generally avoid politics all together), I wouldn't exactly call him a tyrant. Frequently, it hurts and the truth- bearer bears the grunt. I become unpopular, sometimes disliked, at one time, even got myself into a legal battle. The amount of lies and cover-ups one can do to protect personal interests and a circle of buddies are dismally unbelievable! You can measure character and friendships by sticking by Truth. So, yes, Vic I take the consequences, the cajoles, even the loss of some potential friends... but at the end of the day, I sleep well :)Pathfinderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07268486886800674185noreply@blogger.com
