The Price of Life

The Price of Life

Everything has a price,

So I’m told,

Though often we don’t know,

What the price will be,

’Til the tune is done.

And the piper’s gone away,

To play another gig,

Why don’t we ask,

Ere he sets the pipe to his lips,

What will this dance cost?

Some things ’tis true,

Must be done,

But others we choose,

Though they cost us all we own,

And gain not but pain and sorrow,

In the end!
